How It Works

BluOS Windows Tools uses global hotkeys to control volume. By configuring your Surface Dial to send these hotkeys, you get seamless volume control.

Step-by-Step Guide

Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to configure your Surface Dial for BluOS volume control.

Open Windows Settings

Press Win + I to open Windows Settings, then navigate to Bluetooth & devices and select Wheel.

Add a Custom Tool

In the Wheel settings, scroll down to find "Add a tool" and click it. This allows you to create a custom dial action.

You can name this tool something like "BluOS Volume" for easy identification.

Configure the Custom Tool

Set up your custom tool with the following settings:

Tool Name BluOS Volume
Icon Choose any icon (Speaker recommended)
Tool behavior Custom keyboard shortcut

Set the Rotation Shortcuts

Configure the keyboard shortcuts that will be sent when you rotate the dial:

Rotate Left (Counter-clockwise)
Ctrl+Shift+Down Arrow
Rotate Right (Clockwise)
Ctrl+Shift+Up Arrow
Click in the shortcut field and press the key combination to record it.

Enable "Use this tool everywhere"

This is the most important setting! Make sure to enable "Use this tool everywhere" so the dial controls BluOS volume from any application.

When enabled, the dial will always send the volume hotkeys, regardless of which application is in focus.

Start Using Your Dial!

Make sure BluOS Windows Tools is running, then simply rotate your Surface Dial to control the volume of your BluOS system.
